XIV Temperance
This week’s Tarot-Draw is the major arcana’s Temperance #14.
One foot on land, one foot in the water.
Self restraint in action.
Abstinence from alcoholic drink.
Moderation of appetites and passions.
Temperance.
In the name of moderation from late Fall into early Winter we loosen our belts for premeditated over-indulgences.
The diet takes the hit for the team instead of turning to other vice to regulate our emotions and navigate our familial and social rituals.
Simultaneously we plan for losing a few more battles while keeping tally of pounds gained.
Everyone trying their best to go with the flow, but not getting too swept up in it.
That’s a specific type of energetic flow and quality of concentration…
More than the surface level of “balance” it falls under self control or lack thereof.
And that’s an all the time all year round effort.
One foot on land, one foot in the water.
Being kind is something we have to practice.
Both being kind to ourselves and others.
Funny how it speaks a lot to our Temper.
The ever important state of Mind…
Where do we fall on the spectrum of anger to calm today?
One foot on land, one foot in the water.
Life has a flow to it.
The experience of it is undeniably amplified by being both grounded and in Flow-state.
One foot on land, one foot in the water.
The voices in our head saying may be saying “Don’t spend too much; don’t eat too much; stop being so sad.”
The contrarian in me says to let loose just enough to scratch the itch and yet not so much that we have ample reason to guilt and beat ourselves up over it.
It takes believing that there is a point where we’ll call it quits, say enough is enough, and pull ourselves out.
Oh, and actually doing it.
One foot on land, one foot in the water.
I was hoping to include something along the lines of don’t mistake kindness for weakness.
Some of the kindest people I know appear kind as a side effect of their struggles with holding back the awful of how awful life can be.
One foot on land, one foot in the water.
Fight back against the trauma of the past.
How?
Communicate.
This week in Psychic Sleep we’ll touch on themes of: balancing severity and mercy; communication; and the myth of self control.
